Visual and Performing Arts

The study of Visual and Performing Arts in the curriculum enables students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while nurturing creativity. Studio performances in the disciplines of drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, digital media, dance, music, and theater arts provide each student the opportunity to explore new media, tools and techniques, and to expand the scope of their imagination. Art appreciation, knowledge of world cultures, art history, critique methodologies, and careers in art are addressed within the framework of these disciplines, in accordance with the standards set forth by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.

Exploration of the elements and principles of art enables students to give form to their ideas and feelings and to gain aesthetic awareness and art criticism skills. Artistic experiences are provided to develop the creative potential in each child and to allow for maximum individual differences in expression and growth.
